IFT guest of honour at Contemporary Accounting Review Symposium 2017

IFT was a guest of honour at the Contemporary Accounting Review Symposium – Spring 2017. The academic event took place at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), and was co-hosted by MUST’s School of Business, and by, respectively, Xiamen University’s Accounting Development Research Center and Xiamen University’s Department of Accounting.

IFT has been striving to cultivate talent for the tourism, hospitality, events, heritage, food and beverage, retail and service industries; and accounting management plays a crucial role in these sectors, especially in the aspect of strategic management. A scientific and systematic accounting management system can assist decision makers to clearly and accurately understand the financial situation of a business.

IFT Assistant Professor Dr. Cindia Lam (pictured, right) attended the summit on behalf of the Institute. During the event, Dr. Lam exchanged views with several other experts in the field of accounting.

A number of scholars and industry practitioners presented at the summit the results of their latest research in accounting-related areas. Participants also discussed the importance of accounting knowledge as an element in the training of fresh talent for the services sector, and highlighted the positive contributions that developments in accounting have made to the pursuit of good management practices in several industries.

More than 110 scholars and industry experts from Mainland China, Chinese Taiwan, the Hong Kong SAR and the Macao SAR took part in the symposium. Those attending included representatives from, respectively, the University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University. The event also attracted participants from the commercial accounting sector, including from international professional services firm Ernst & Young and from CPA Australia, one of the largest accountancy profession trade bodies in the world.
