IFT scholars sweep awards at hospitality conference

IFT academics completed a clean sweep at the EuroCHRIE 2017 Conference, winning the event’s 2 award categories for research papers. The conference took place in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, from 23 to 25 October.

IFT Assistant Professors Dr. Connie Loi, Dr. Clara Lei and Dr. Fernando Lourenço received the In-Practice Award for their paper “To Leave or Not to Leave? A Myth of the Employment Market in the Casino Industry in Macao”. The In-Practice Award acknowledges “superior industry-focused” research presented at the conference.

IFT Assistant Professor Dr. Cindia Lam, Lecturer Mr. Billy Im and alumna Ms. Cindy Xiao received the conference’s Research Award for their paper, “The Role of Sensation-Seeking Styles on Travel Risk Perception and the Need for Travel Insurance”. The Research Award commends an individual piece of research submitted to the EuroCHRIE conference that has made “a significant contribution” to the tourism and hospitality industry and to education.

EuroCHRIE is the official federation for Europe, the Mediterranean Basin and Africa of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education – also known as International CHRIE. The body is a leading international organisation that supports education and training for hospitality and tourism.

Founded in 1946 as a non-profit organisation for schools, colleges and universities offering programmes of study in hospitality and tourism, International CHRIE has since expanded its scope to include the enhancement of professionalism at all levels of the hospitality and tourism industry.
