A team from IFT’s English Speech and Debate Society secured second place in the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao finals of the 9th “Shangjiao” Business Presentation Contest. The event, organised by the Linguistic Society of Macao, took place on 13 and 14 April at the City University of Macau.

IFT was represented by a 4-strong team of bachelor degree programme students. They were: Michael Tang, from the Hotel Management programme; Kathy Yin, from Tourism Event Management; Echo Huang, from Heritage Management; and Olorato Kesamang, from Tourism Retail Marketing and Management.

The group was supported by IFT Lecturers Mr. Wilson Hong and Ms. Rachel Peralta.

The contest took as its theme the concept “Green City”. The event was sponsored by the Macao Foundation and the City University of Macau.

The business proposal by the IFT team featured 3 interrelated concepts, namely “Grey Water System”, “Sponge City”, and “Rainwater Garden”. The proposal was crafted with the aim of easing the city’s flooding problems and Macao’s over-reliance on water supply from Mainland China. The suggested solution involved engaging the city’s hotel industry in efforts to save and better manage water resources, thus promoting environmental sustainability and protection.

The IFT team was praised by the competition judges for its skills and professionalism in terms of its presentation.
