IFTM Alumni Association organised site tour to Phase 3 of Galaxy Macau integrated resort

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese
In line with the mission of the IFTM Alumni Association to foster opportunities for Institute graduates to reconnect and network, the association recently organised a visit to the newly-added non-gaming facilities of integrated resort Galaxy Macau

On 1 March, the IFTM Alumni Association (IFTMA) staged a field trip to Phase 3 of integrated resort Galaxy Macau. It gave participants a chance to learn more about the latest developments in the city’s tourism and hospitality sector.

A 40-strong delegation, featuring alumni and current IFTM students, explored the Galaxy International Convention Center, the Galaxy Arena, and the Andaz Macau hotel. The venues – launched last year – are integral components of Phase 3 at Galaxy Macau, a complex owned and operated by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd.

IFTMA received support from Institute alumna Ms. Afra Wong, Senior Manager of Public Relations at Galaxy Entertainment Group, in the organisation of the event. She graduated from the Institute in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Business Management.

Assisting Ms. Wong in leading the visit was fellow IFTM alumnus Mr. Tony Iam, who graduated from the Institute with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Event Management. He currently serves as Officer of Public Relations at Galaxy Macau.

According to Ms. Wini Cheong Sam I, President of the IFTMA General Assembly, the aim of the site visit and tour was to help alumni and students gain insights into the current trends within the industry.

Mr. James Sun Ka Meng, Chairman of the IFTMA Executive Committee, also participated in the visit.

The one-hour tour showcased various aspects of the latest phase of Galaxy Macau. Participants showed enthusiasm in learning more about the venues used for hosting events, as well as the various areas of the Andaz Macau hotel.

During the visit, IFTM alumni and students asked questions regarding the types of event that could be held at the Galaxy International Convention Center and the Galaxy Arena, as well as the respective utilisation rates for the venues. The visitors also expressed interest in the features of the hotel and its room-occupancy percentage rate, as well as other distinguishing characteristics.

At the end of the visit, IFTM alumna and Galaxy Entertainment host Ms. Wong reflected on the significant strides the Institute had taken since her student days. She highlighted the expansion in the number of available bachelor’s degrees and the introduction of postgraduate programmes. Ms. Wong also pointed out the next noteworthy development: the Institute is poised to rename as ‘university’ from 1 April. She underscored the importance for alumni and students of taking pride in their alma mater’s remarkable progress.

“For students, I hope that they enjoy the time spent on the campus; for alumni, I hope that we all can network to connect students, alumni, and IFTM, to create more collaboration opportunities,” concluded Ms. Wong.
