中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

In recognition of her diligence in studying and pragmatism, Lucy, Zhang Zhanyue, a graduate of the class of the Bachelor of Hotel Management programme, has been awarded the 2021 scholarship of ‘The Stars of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students.’

The activity was sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Students’ Federation. The selection targets are the role models who have outstanding deeds in serving to build a moderately prosperous society, helping to revitalise the countryside, participating in social governance innovation, promoting online civilisation, helping to promote academic and scientific progress, etc. The ‘Star of Self-improvement’ selection activity also aims to set an exemplary and leading role of good conduct, perseverance, and self-improvement among contemporary college students.

Lucy, who was born in a small city in northern China, voluntarily enrolled herself to apply for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Hotel Management. ‘How meaningful it is to grow self-consciousness and be disciplined when I started my undergraduate studies and had to fly the nest and live alone,’ said Lucy in her application paper. She always seeks solutions to her problems and questions by either going to the instructors or peers for their assistance.

Besides actively joining the English Centre every week to brush up on her oral skills in English, Lucy also completed a three-year Portuguese course with an A1 certificate during her academic journey in IFTM.

Lucy has always prided herself on making contributions to the Institute. In the celebration event of the 20th Anniversary of the Return of Macao to the Motherland, as one of the student ambassadors, she greeted and served Ms. Peng Liyuan, First Lady of the People’s Republic of China. She also participated in the National Flag-raising Ceremony as one of the flag raisers.

In terms of community engagement, she has participated in aid education in China, volunteering in impoverished areas for two consecutive years to improve education. She aims to provide students with new knowledge and thoughts, as well as make learning English fun for them. ‘If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path,’ Lucy quoted. With this great honour, she is grateful and strives to become a better person by working on self-improvement in all areas, thus contributing and giving back to society with those taken from the community.

The Institute is glad to have students and alumni of IFTM being praised on a nationwide basis as role models of motivational growth. It is believed that the award of ‘Star of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students’ only marks the start of Lucy’s flying dream. Her hardworking, self-improvement, and courage, setting a pioneering example of being amiable, respectable, trustworthy, and learnable for all the students in the school, fully demonstrating the effectiveness of the education path of all-around education in the school.
