A group of IFTM Year 1 undergraduates was present for an October 29 guest lecture titled “Introduction to Business Management, specialising in Human Resources”. The lecture, delivered by Ms Lucinda Monteiro, Area Manager for watchmaker Piaget, discussed key skills required in jobs at various levels of an organisation, and covered also the importance of brand culture.

The event was attended by students enrolled respectively on the Hotel Management, Tourism Event Management, Culinary Arts Management, and Tourism Business Management bachelor’s degree programmes.

The guest lecture was hosted by IFTM Lecturer Ms. Belina Lei and had the specific aim to enrich the learning of students enrolled in the “Introduction to Business Management” course.

Piaget’s Ms. Monteiro divided her talk into four segments, covering key skills needed for jobs at various levels – elementary, supervisory, and managerial – and delving into the importance of brand culture.

The lecture primarily focused on essentials including product expertise, self-development, digital literacy, creativity, customer-centricity, relationship management, and communication skills. A question-and-answer session followed the talk.

Students expressed their appreciation for the event’s staging, noting its contribution to their academic and professional growth.

Boeing Cheng, a student from the Tourism Event Management programme, highlighted the lecture’s role in providing valuable insights into the responsibilities of a manager. “They need to plan, create opportunities, lead employees, and control the organisation while achieving its stated goals,” he remarked.

Nancy Zhang Xiaoyue, a Tourism Business Management student, praised Ms. Monteiro for offering a “deeper understanding” of management-related topics. Nancy added that the lecture had significantly expanded her knowledge.

Sunny Sun, from the Hotel Management programme, emphasised how the guest lecture gave students a clear understanding of the skills and abilities necessary to become effective managers.
