The course “Discovery of New Zealand Wine” and the “Hungary Wine Course”, both led by Ms. Fongyee Walker, a Master of Wine, armed IFTM students with fresh expertise in the field of wine

A number of IFTM undergraduates have been recognised with certificates for successfully completing a “Discovery of New Zealand Wine” course and a “Hungary Wine Course”.

The students, from respectively IFTM’s Hotel Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme and its Culinary Arts Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme, are members of the Wine Appreciation Club, an affiliate organisation of the IFTM Student Union.

The courses were conducted by Ms. Fongyee Walker, a prominent Master of Wine, and hosted by the Wynn Food & Beverage Academy at the Wynn Palace integrated resort, on 10 and 11 January.

Ms. Walker is the first Master of Wine to reside in mainland China, and one of a select few worldwide. As China’s most-qualified wine educator, and a Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Certified Educator, Ms. Walker provided valuable insights into the production processes, styles, and varieties of wines originating respectively from New Zealand and Hungary.

What the students learned on the courses is expected to provide good foundational material for any career they have in hospitality.

The courses underscore the commitment of IFTM to providing students with extracurricular opportunities to learn about international best practice in the tourism industry. The courses also align with the Institute’s dedication to excellence in tourism education.
