IFTM students shine during Dolce&Gabbana internship

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese
Two IFTM students seized the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to a professional setting, during a six-month internship at the luxury fashion brand Dolce&Gabbana. It allowed the undergraduates to realise the practicality and applicability of business management concepts and theories learned at IFTM

The local entity of the Italian fashion brand Dolce&Gabbana recently held with IFTM a graduation ceremony for two Year 3 Institute students who completed their curricular internships with the brand. The students were enrolled on the Institute’s Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme.

During the ceremony, students Katherine Chen Xiaolin and Christopher Choi On Tek each delivered a presentation. They were respectively themed “Teamwork” and “The DNA of Dolce&Gabbana”, reflecting what they learned at Dolce&Gabbana throughout the six-month internship programme.

Christopher mentioned that the internship altered his perception of the luxury retail industry, giving him a better understanding of merchandising management and workplace dynamics. Katherine added that the professional environment compelled the IFTM undergraduates to reflect consistently on what they had learned in the classroom. She emphasised that the concepts and theories discussed in class prepared them well for that workplace experience.

Both students agreed that the internship provided a valuable opportunity not only to work but also to learn at Dolce&Gabbana, a brand with an international perspective. The experience enhanced their practical understanding of task handling, management operations, team building, and customer relationship management.

The Dolce&Gabbana team attending the ceremony acknowledged the achievements of both students, expressing the team’s  belief that IFTM’s student internship programme is an excellent opportunity for nurturing students with management potential.

The students’ mentors at Dolce&Gabbana highlighted the professional transformation observed in the two undergraduates. The mentors said they had witnessed the students’ incredible journeys of development, from the first day of the internship up to when they delivered professional-standard presentations during the graduation ceremony. The duo had become more capable in terms of brand knowledge and customer service techniques, stated the two mentors.

At the ceremony’s conclusion, the students were presented with Internship Graduation Certificates to recognise their performance.

IFTM’s Registrar, Ms. Louisa Lam Pou Iok; Assistant Professor Dr. Catherine Li Zhuo, Coordinator for the Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Programme; and Lecturer Ms. Kitty Fong Kit Sam also attended the event.

The IFTM side recognises that internships provide students with a bridge between academic learning and real-world application of insights, thereby equipping undergraduates with invaluable skills and knowledge, as well as hands-on experience. The internship programme at IFTM plays a pivotal role in shaping graduates as well-rounded people prepared to excel in their future careers. This makes such internships an integral component of the Institute’s educational framework.
