New group of Congjiang students attended ‘experience camp’ at IFTM

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

A group of 30 high school students and 2 teachers from Congjiang County in Guizhou Province has recently joined an “experience camp” in Macao, held by IFTM from 17 to 20 November.

On the programme for the experience camp was a seminar that gave an overview of the international tourism and hospitality industry, presented by IFTM Lecturer Mr. Billy Im Ut Lon. In addition, the students took practical classes in housekeeping, front office and restaurant operations, giving them a basic idea of hotel operations. They also toured both IFTM campuses, learning about the study programmes offered at the Institute.

Included in the experience camp itinerary was a visit to the Galaxy Macau integrated resort in Cotai. The visit offered the Congjiang students an opportunity to see the actual operation of a big tourism and leisure establishment.

While in Macao, the students toured parts of the Historic Centre of Macao that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. They saw the A-Má Temple, the Ruins of St. Paul’s and the Mandarin’s House, adding to their knowledge of the city’s history and culture.

This experience camp was the second IFTM has arranged for high school students from Congjiang. The first took place in July 2019.

In April 2019 the Macao Government Tourism Office, Congjiang County People’s Government and IFTM agreed to cooperate on tourism development and training as part of the national effort toward poverty alleviation in Congjiang County. The Institute has since helped train officials and workers in Congjiang’s tourism industry.
