No stress: IFTM students put on chilled-out gathering to hone event management skills

A group of Year 3 IFTM students from the English-language stream of the Tourism Event Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme hosted on 30 April an activity called “CHILLTOP”. It was organised as part of the requirements for the “Event Management: Hosting an Event” course, supervised by Lecturer Dr. Ubaldino Couto.

Students taking the course are required to conceptualise, plan and implement a public live event, and then evaluate it. This semester, students adopted a street art culture theme, as a way to promote Macao’s cultural and creative talent.

“CHILLTOP” consisted of a bazaar featuring live music performances and other activities such as a workshop in henna painting, cartoon drawing, and party games. The event attracted more than 150 participants. It took place at the Aerial Garden of the Inspiration Building on the Mong-Há Campus, providing the perfect setting for a chilled-out sunset gathering.

Throughout the semester, leading up to “CHILLTOP”, students organised a number of side activities in order to promote it, and to raise funds actually to stage it. In February, they hosted a charity sale of home-made cookies; in March, students held 2 sessions of a workshop on making incense artefacts.

The overall project raised net proceeds amounting to MOP3,000. These were donated to the local Youth Out Door Activities Association.

Businesses supporting the “CHILLTOP” event included: KAIIAO, Sheep Macau, FILL Café, Tryangle Coffee, the Wine House, 6cm Bakery, CKTEAJELLY, HeavenlyBaked.mo, and the Macau Coca-Cola Beverage Company Ltd.

“Event Management: Hosting an Event” is one of the signature courses of the Tourism Event Management Bachelor’s Degree Programme. It is instrumental in helping students develop key skills in organising events, providing them with valuable knowledge and hands-on experience.

A total of 3 public events is held live each academic year by students as part of their coursework for the Tourism Event Management programme (including the English-language and Chinese-language streams). Entities interested in collaborating, sponsoring, or providing any other type of support to these events, can contact Dr. Couto (dino@iftm.edu.mo) for an informal discussion.
