The intricacies of luxury hospitality took centre stage in a recent guest lecture at IFTM. Dr. Estelle Dinh, of the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland, examined how premium accommodation providers focus on delivering bespoke experiences to create lasting emotional connections between their brand and customers

Dr. Estelle Dinh, a scholar from the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland, visited IFTM on 12 March to deliver a guest lecture titled “The Luxury Guest Experience in Tourism and Hospitality”. During her presentation, Dr. Dinh explored various elements that define luxury hospitality. She also encouraged the attending students to consider luxury hospitality management as a potential career path.

The Glion Institute of Higher Education was established in 1962 and is one of the world’s leaders in studies linked to management of the luxury hospitality sector. Dr. Dinh’s expertise includes luxury branding and marketing, design of luxury service, and etiquette associated with luxury service. She has conducted masterclasses on luxury branding and marketing, as well as on luxury services, in Europe, the Middle East, and other places in Asia.

Dr. Dinh explored in detail the notion of luxury hospitality, underscoring the significance of service quality over quantity. Such service should prioritise attention to detail, personalised service, and the creation of unique and unforgettable moments. The undergraduates present at the lecture actively engaged in the discussion, acknowledging the multifaceted nature of luxury hospitality.

The scholar also spoke of how luxury brands aim to establish emotional bonds with guests, giving the customers the opportunity to realise their aspirations. As a result, such brands were not just providers of products or services, but enablers of distinctive lifestyles, she said.

Thanks to Dr. Dinh’s in-depth explanations, the lecture provided a comprehensive exploration of luxury experiences within the tourism and hospitality sector. It equipped students with a detailed understanding of the fundamental elements that define such experiences.
