This course introduces mainstream theories and principles of cultural tourism planning and development, and their application in different contexts and levels. In this course, students learn about the traditions and diverse forms of cultural tourism development. From that, recognising the importance of sustainable development approach in cultural tourism. Students will learn how to assess the positive and negative impacts of tourism development on cultural resources and understand how planning can mitigate potential problems/issues, in order to maximise benefits to host stakeholders and communities. The course also discusses emerging topics/issues affecting cultural resources and the development of cultural tourism.
