INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL ECONOMICS

This course can be thought of in two parts.  In the first half of the course students will develop a basic understanding of the theory and principles of cultural economics. The second half of the course emphasizes the importance of valuing cultural and heritage goods, including festivals and events. In this second part of the course students will develop a knowledge of basic valuation tools, which can be used in future studies. Objects of analysis will include cultural and heritage good, such as heritage sites and museums, visual and performing arts and cultural festivals. Students will be able to better conceptualize and explain the economic and social value of the arts and culture.
