This course aims to develop students’ professional workplace communication knowledge and skills in the tourism and hospitality situations using English. Because problem-solving and communication are important 21st century skills, emphasis is placed on acquiring various strategies and the use of English as a medium of communication and interaction among customers and co-workers. Course content is based on the conventions and formats of professional communication needed in tourism and hospitality-related contexts. Students will be required to apply knowledge and skills through tasks and assignments designed to simulate realistic situations which call for decision-making and appropriate responses. Students will be expected to demonstrate a high level of both oral and written fluency in English as well as an appreciation of the importance of solving problems in the workplace in preparation for their future role in increasing customer satisfaction and building good employee relationships.
