Heritage interpretation helps people understand the cultural value of a heritage place.  It also helps achieve a number of cultural heritage management (CHM) objectives including promoting appropriate visitor behaviour, developing support for heritage, sharing tourism benefits with host communities, etc. However, good and effective interpretation requires adherence to certain principles, careful planning and effective delivery/presentation of interpretative materials. This course will discuss the key principles of heritage interpretation and their application in practice through a detailed interpretative planning. It will outline the concepts and strategies currently employed for best practice interpretation/presentation and discuss some specific cases in detail.
