Credits 3.00
Hours / Week 3

This course identifies, analyzes and appraises the historical, cultural, economic and social values of Macau’s community heritage assets, using international-standard professional inventory, mapping and assessment methodologies, building up skills that have already introduced to students in their previous courses. This module provides an opportunity to train and to sensitize students in understanding the deep layers of Macau cultural and urban heritage as anchor for cultural resilience and sustainability, and at the same time cultivating the ability as heritage manager to network with various stakeholders, organizations, and agencies.

This course introduces students to the theories and practices of holistic cultural mapping within the framework of heritage management. It provides students the necessary knowledge and skills to identify, study, document and map both tangible and intangible cultural resources within a community by in-class lectures and workshops and through on-site activities.

The two weeks intensive course uses blended learning pedagogy and flipped-classroom method, consists of lectures, on-site workshops, hands-on tutorials, community empowerment exercises, and culminates in a publicly critiqued exhibition, seminar and walking tour. Students will be immersed in a real-time experience to give exposure to the professional practice in heritage management in Macau.
