JAPANESE IV

Course Code JAPN212
Credits 3.00
Hours / Week 3

Japanese IV is a continuation of Japanese III and designed for those who have completed Japanese III or equivalent.
It aims to build up the elementary grammatical structure of the Japanese language through a textbook and to help
students to employ the knowledge in situational practices.
The course will focus on the development of the communicative competence in speaking, listening, reading and
writing. Throughout the course, learners are expected to acquire 200 new words and phrases (about 1000,
including those from Japanese I to III) related to the daily life, and to master the patterns of some verb form change
and speech style change, and to use them in slightly more complicating sentence patterns with function. It also
aims to explore the origin of some Japanese words and a variety of their usages in order to seek for a cultural aspect
in them.
