Chinese I is designed for students whose native language is not Chinese. It mainly trains listening, speaking, reading and character writing skills. As a beginning, students start to learn Pinyin - the Chinese phonetic system, using Pinyin to recognize and pronounce Chinese characters, laying a foundation for sentence-making. Students will learn to write some of the simple characters given in Chinese I.
