UNWTO.TedQual Certification renewed for 5 IFTM
Bachelor Degree Programmes
2/1/2021 003REL/RP/21

IFTM has recently obtained the successful renewal of the UNWTO.TedQual recognition for 5 of its daytime undergraduate programmes. Programmes with such renewed certification, which is in effect until 23 December 2024 (4 years), are: Bachelor of Science in Tourism Business Management; Bachelor of Science in Hotel Management; Bachelor of Science in Tourism Event Management; Bachelor of Science in Heritage Management; and Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Arts Management.

During the renewal evaluation process, the Institute has obtained the highest score ever achieved: 789 points out of 845 maximum, equivalent to a 93.4-percent degree of accomplishment. A 75-percent degree of accomplishment is the minimum to obtain UNWTO.TedQual Certification.

“A 4-year period of certification renewal is the longest available,” said IFTM President Dr. Fanny Vong Chuk Kwan. “The renewals are a testament to IFTM’s continued commitment to quality education and the integration of industry needs in the development of highly relevant tourism education programmes,” she added.

In 2000, IFTM became the first United Nations World Tourism Organization UNWTO.TedQual institution in tourism education. The Institute currently has the greatest number of UNWTO.TedQual-certified bachelor degree programmes of any institution in the world: 8, including 2 evening bachelor degree programmes.

The main objective of the UNWTO.TedQual Certification System – under the UNWTO Academy – is to improve the quality of tourism education, training and research programmes. It uses evaluation criteria universally applicable to any institution, to measure the efficiency of academic systems as well as the extent to which the needs of the tourism industry, and of students, are incorporated into each tourism education programme.

The quality of education at IFTM has been recognised by the many certifications the Institute has received over the years. In 2017, IFTM was the world’s first higher education institution to pass the “International Quality Review (IQR)” of the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency, which is a global leader in quality
