IFTM students visited the Macao Grand Prix Museum

A group of IFTM students visited the Macao Grand Prix Museum on 6 May 2022. The site visit was one of the class activities of the Visitor Management course taught by Dr. Soey Sut Ieng LEI, Lecturer of School of Hotel Management at IFTM. The site visit was organized to help students better understand real-world visitor management practices such as visitor flow management, visitor research, and the application of smart technologies to enhance visitor experience. The visit began with a museum tour arranged by Ms. Ada Sio Fan WONG, representative of the Facilities Management Division, Tourism Product and Events Department, Macao Government Tourism Office. Students were first guided to follow the route suggested by the museum, which is designed to help visitors get the most out of their experience. To manage the crowd, students were separated into different groups and stayed on different floors throughout the tour. In addition to walking students through the history of the Macau Grand Prix event, famous Grand Prix cars and racers, students were also shown how smart techniques could be applied to engage visitors and stimulate visitors' senses. For example, students get to experience the multi-media displays, energetic music, and car racing sounds in different corners of the museum. Every student was distributed an audio headset to listen to the live tour, and a visitor badge which could be used for experiencing different games (e.g., scanning QR codes, VR games) offered by the museum. An interactive Q&A session was arranged following the tour for students to ask questions related to visitor management in museum. Ms. Wong also encouraged students to share their opinions regarding their visit on the museum's official website. At the end of the visit, students were encouraged to stay and experience the different facilities inside the museum. The site visit helped students gain useful information to complete their course project on researching and analyzing real-world visitor management practices.
