Sands China Limited recently hosted the Sands Lifestyle #ReDiscoverMacao 2023 – a MICE Mega FAM hosting 200 international guests and media from around the world. The organisers held two panel discussions as part of the programme. Dr Sherry Tan, Assistant Professor from the School of Hospitality Management was invited as a panellist to speak at the MICE Forum, titled Talent Retention, Motivation and Optimization. Dr Tan shared her thoughts from an educator's perspective: getting practical experience is very important as event is a hand-on field. She added that the training at IFTM has always emphasised linking theories to practice in its curriculum development and teaching, including practicum courses and internship components. With close relationship with industry partners, students benefit from site visits to event facilities and guest lectures from industry veterans which are integrated in the BSc Tourism Event Management programme as well as other programmes in IFTM. The organisers also invited students to participate in the forum to expand their horizons and gain insights to the development of the industry.
