About the Conference

The conference explored the challenges and opportunities of achieving meaningful and sustainable approaches to cultural tourism in historic urban areas.

The conference was structured around the following four sub-themes:

Over 90 delegates from 25 countries attended the conference, including cultural unit executives, tourism and hospitality professionals, architects, urban planners, researchers and students. Scholars shared their findings on topics related to cultural tourism, tourism management and urban heritage conservation.

About IFT's Heritage Studies Centre

The Centre was established in 2008. Its mission is to promote the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of heritage by working with intergovernmental agencies, academics and professionals. It is committed to promoting heritage studies through conducting research and training programmes with local and global partners. Among the different projects, the Centre has written the training manual for the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Specialist Guides Programme that has been translated into six languages and adopted for the UNESCO World Heritage sites in ten countries. The Centre is also the focal point of training programme for AAHM network.

About the Asian Academy for Heritage Management

The Asian Academy for Heritage Management (AAHM) is established by UNESCO and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM). The mission of the AAHM is to strengthen professional capacity to sustainably manage heritage resources by providing a regional platform for institutional cooperation in education, training, and research.
