Northern India 2016

Dr Sharif Shams Imon led a group of 24 Year-4 Heritage Management students to an 11-day field study trip to Delhi, Agra, Chandigarh and Shimla in northern India. The highlight of the trip was a three-day intensive workshop on the interpretation and presentation of cultural heritage, held jointly with the Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture (CSPA), Chitkara University, Punjab. Also, the students visited several key heritage sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort in Agra; Qutb Minar and its Monuments in Delhi and the Mountain Railways of India (Kalka-Shimla Section) in Shimla; and the Architectural Works of Le Corbusier in Chandigarh. The students also visited an urban renewal project supported by the Aga Khan Foundation at Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti in Delhi.
